Rory McIlroy has moved to sharpen his game ahead of the Masters by adding next week's Texas Valero Open to his schedule.

McIlroy has had a torrid time since switching to Nike clubs, missing cuts, walking out of events and generally playing at a level well short of his best.

He saw Tiger Woods pass him to become the new world No. 1 last week and he's been in indifferent form at the Shell Houston Open.

While he has played pretty well from the fairway, he has struggled to find the cut stuff from the tee with his driver being particularly wayward.

McIlroy claims he feels like he is heading in the right direction, but it seems as if he believes match sharpness is the way to get his game in order as he will tee it up in San Antonio.
