Donald frustrated, McDowell in contention
Luke Donald endured an inconsistent third round in the RBC Heritage as he carded an even-par 71 to remain five-under-par, six shots off outright leader Charley Hoffman.
The Englishman started well, picking up a birdie at the second but soon fell behind following bogeys at the fifth and seventh. However, successive birdies at nine and ten gave the former world No. 1 momentum through the turn, but a three-putt at the par-5 16th meant that Donald had to settle for a frustrating finish at the Harbour Town Golf Links course.
Graeme McDowell moved further into contention after a three-under-par third round of 68 saw him rise to seven-under overall, four shots off the lead.
Three birdies on the front-nine was marred by a solitary bogey at the third, before the Northern Irishman enjoyed a solid back-nine in cloudy conditions, finishing up with a birdie on the final hole.
American Webb Simpson hit the round of the day, shooting a bogeyless six-under-par 65 to remain two shots off his compatriot Hoffman, who also did not drop a shot all round and birdied four of his opening five holes on the way to taking the outright lead.
Elsewhere, Kevin Streelman sits at eight-under after shooting 69 while Brendon de Jonge joins McDowell on seven-under following his round of 67.
Jim Furyk was one of the biggest movers of the day, carding a 66 to move five-under par overall ahead of Sunday's fourth round.
