Guan Tianlang was brought down to earth with a thud at the Zurich Classic, as a 77 in the third round left him propping up the rest of the field, as Lucas Glover leads the way in New Orleans.

A superb second round 69 took Guan to three-under after 36 holes and more importantly, ensured he made the cut despite being a mere 14 years of age.

He proved in no uncertain terms that his fine effort at the Masters was no flash in the pan, but he was given a taste of the harsher side of life on the PGA Tour as he toiled in what were favourable conditions.

Teeing off early with fresh greens and little wind, Guan had a chance to post a good number but he never really recovered from a bogey on the first. He did birdie the second, but his usual control was lacking and he found water off the tee on seven which set up a nasty triple bogey.

There were further bogeys on 13, 14 and 18 as he dropped back to two-over for the round - and 71st of 71 players.

At the business end, Lucas Glover overcame a sluggish day with the putter to secure a two-shot lead heading into the final round.

The American's putter went cold but he was able to card a 70 which moved him to 14-under. He holds a two-shot lead over Kyle Stanley, Jimmy Walker, Billy Horschel and DA Points. Justin Rose is five adrift at nine-under after signing for a 70.
