Horschel victorious, Guan ends on low note

Billy Horschel claimed his maiden victory on the PGA Tour at the Zurich Classic in New Orleans, while 14-year-old sensation Guan Tianlang ended the event bottom of the leaderboard.

Horschel began the final round tied for second and two shots adrift of leader Lucas Glover. However, Glover failed to capitalise on his advantage, allowing Horschel to storm to victory with nine birdies and a score of 64 in the final round, beating DA Points by one shot and finishing the tournament on 20-under.

Guan endured a terrible third day at the event after making it through to a second consecutive weekend on the tour, carding a 77 after dropping eight shots. The amateur had fired in a superb 69 to make the cut on Friday.

Beginning on the back nine holes, Guan posted two bogeys in his opening three holes and only made one birdie. But the rising star from China collected a second birdie of the day on the fourth hole and ended the event with a closing-round 74.

In the battle at the front, Horschel stormed into the lead when seven birdies arrived in eight holes. However, the American dropped his first shot since the second round on the 15th hole.

Points went level with Horschel on 18-under on the 15th, but the latter resumed control and went one shot ahead with another birdie on the 16th par-four.

When both players played on the 18th and final hole, the horn was sounded as play was suspended due to bad weather for a second time in the day. But, returning earlier than scheduled, the 26-year-old sealed the win with a birdie putted from over 25-feet and burst out with pure joy in celebrating the victory.
