G-Mac receives a clinic, Lynn gives fans a scare
Ominous ... for everyone else
Graeme McDowell's comments about Tiger Woods don't make for pretty reading for the rest of the field:
"He certainly looks like he's very close to being back. There will be no surprise to me if he's picking up the Claret Jug on Sunday night. I'm not writing myself off. But it would be very hard for me to beat him at this point if he keeps playing like he's playing.
"I told him it was a clinic. He was very, very impressive the last two days. The flight control he has in his irons - he just hits the shot that you're supposed to hit at all times. I'm not sure there's a better iron player in the world."
Going, going, gone
Tiger was not the only one striking it pure on Friday. Lee Westwood was hitting the ball so well, even ShotTracer could not keep up. On the 18th, it seems the Englishman managed to launch his drive into orbit:
Six of the worst
Nicolas Colsaerts managed to six-putt the 15th green for a quintuple-bogey nine. Ouch.
"The first thing, we did not see that coming," his putting coach (who may soon be looking for new employment), told the BBC. "When you see it on TV, it will look like a stupid situation but he was trying on every putt and he missed each time. One of the best players in the world ends up looking stupid. I don't know how we will talk about that afterwards, it can happen in these conditions."
Impressive effort
On Thursday Ian Poulter had a good old moan about some of the hole placements at Muirfield, suggesting that the 18th just needed a "windmill and clown face". Cue this jokster turning up at the course on Friday morning:

Grip it and rip it
With a slight helping wind on Friday morning, Charl Schwartzel hit his driver over the back of the green at the 376-yard par-four 12th. What sort of madness is this?!
Golf fashion takes a turn for the worse
Those of a nervous disposition, avert thine eyes right now. Seriously - don't scroll down a centimetre further.
We can't decide whether this tweet from David Lynn is a great joke or a terrible one but, one way or another, it is indeed a joke.
We know that, because the Englishman actually turned up in tartan trousers and a purple polo shirt. Phew.
Seems to be the norm to post your outfit for @the_open each day so here's my 2nd rd outfit pic.twitter.com/ztSKvS1TMo

Now that's a putt
Well done, Robert Garrigus.
