Leader Mahan withdraws as wife enters labour
Canadian Open overnight leader Hunter Mahan has withdrawn from the tournament after being informed his wife had gone into labour.
The American topped the leaderboard after 36 holes in Oakville, moving to 13-under par following rounds of 67 and 64 - two shots ahead of compatriot Justin Merrick.
The pair, who were scheduled to tee-off together in the final group, were delayed by 80 minutes after a storm disrupted proceedings at the Glen Abbey. Mahan was on the practice range when he received the call, and left immediately - leaving Merrick to play without a partner.
Merrick surrendered top spot after making four bogeys in his opening twelve holes, while Greg Owen remains the highest placed Brit - he carded eight birdies and two bogeys in 16 holes to move well within a chance of victory ahead of Sunday's final round.
Brandt Snedeker finished his Saturday with a nine-under score of 63, hitting seven birdies in his opening nine holes. The American moves to 14-under, two shots ahead of Matt Kuchar, while Mark Wilson finished another solid round of 67 to move to ten-under.
David Lingmerth is well in range of the top of the leaderboard after his impressive showing, hitting a 65 to move to 13-under.
Dustin Johnson shot himself into contention with a nine-under 63, leaving him at 11-under for the tournament along with Kyle Stanley. Johnson hit seven birdies and an eagle in his bogeyless third round, while Stanley hit a 66 to close in on the leaders.
Trevor Immelman carded a 66 to move to nine-under overall, while Vijay Singh and Greg Chalmers are poised at eight-under.
Graeme McDowell could not build on a positive second round, hitting six bogeys in his visit of 76. Ernie Els enjoyed his best round of the tournament so far, making a five-under 67 which included a chip-in at the 18th, to move to six-under.
