Paul Casey and Tommy Fleetwood are firmly in the chase for the European Masters after ending day one two shots off the lead.

After starting his round on the tenth hole, India's Anirban Lahiri carded two eagles on the back nine along with birdies at the first, second, sixth and ninth holes to finish out front in 63.

Miguel Angel Jimenez, champion in 2010, is tied for second with Casey and Fleetwood after carding six birdies with only one dropped shot - at the 191-yard third hole - in his 65.

A bogey six at the 15th unmade the good work Casey did with an eagle at the seventh, however the Irish Open champion atoned for his error with a birdie at the next hole.

Fleetwood, on the back of winning his maiden European Tour event at the Johnnie Walker Championship at Gleneagles two weeks ago, recovered from bogeying two of his first seven holes with six straight threes between the 17th and fourth holes.

Thomas Bjorn, the 2011 winner, is tied for fifth after a 66, while Francesco Molinari carded a two-under 69 with his Ryder Cup captain at Medinah, Jose Maria Olazabal, hitting 67.

The 13-year old Chinese amateur Ye Wo-cheng finished seven over with three double bogeys in his first four holes.
