Zach Johnson has won the BMW Championship by two shots after a fine final round of 65 saw him take the victory from Jim Furyk.

After the final day was moved to Monday following play being hit by rain, Furyk had been the leader by two shots, but the man who became the sixth player in the history of the PGA Tour to card a score of 59 was unable to follow that feat with a tournament victory, and instead it was Johnson to took the honours on 16-under to climb to fourth in the FedEx Cup play-off standings.

Furyk had set a steady pace throughout the final round at Conway Farms with his two-shot advantage, but he came across trouble on the back nine when he hit bogeys on the 11th, 13th and 16th holes.

Johnson on the other hand began with three birdies on the front nine but then emerged as the one to beat with three more birdies in his final seven holes - at a time when the win from Furyk was slipping through his fingers.

And with Johnson in command heading to the 18th, Furyk knew his hopes of winning the event were over as he needed an albatross to secure it, leaving Johnson to sink his putt for a six-under-65 and his first tournament win of the year, his 10th overall on the PGA Tour.

Furyk finished in third, with Nick Watney placing a runner-up. Luke Donald, Hunter Mahan, Jason Day and Steve Stricker were all tied for fourth on 11-under, with world No. 1 Tiger Woods finishing on nine-under.
