Jason Day rode his luck as he claimed his maiden PGA Tour title at the Byron Nelson Championship in Texas.

Day held a one-shot lead over playing partner Blake Adams heading into the final hole, but the nerves got the better of him as he sent his approach shot flying into the water. But just as the momentum swung in Adams' favour, the American followed him into the hazard.

Day's bogey was not the ideal way to round off an impressive weekend, but he wouldn't have minded too much as he beat Adams by two shots to become the second Australian to win a PGA Tour title in Texas in as many weeks after Adam Scott's success last week.

Adams' tied for second place with Jeff Overton and Brian Gay. While Overton's 71 was enough to keep him in the running, Gay sunk seven birdies for a stellar 63 to propel him up the leaderboard.

Scott Verplank (67) and Cameron Beckman (68) finished a shot further back on seven under.

Amateur Jordan Spieth stole the headlines this weekend, as the 16-year-old showed impressive maturity throughout the tournament to stay in contention. In front of his school friends who had turned out in force to support the 16-year-old, Spieth's final round 72 was his only round over par to finish on a respectable four-under, level with big names such as Kenny Perry.

"It was awesome; the entire round, the entire week," Spieth said. "Starting the week, I definitely would've taken a top-20, in a heartbeat. Obviously now, looking back, being a competitor, I look back at the mistakes I made that didn't give me an opportunity to win."
