GB&I cut Europe's lead to one point

Europe held onto their lead in the Seve Trophy but saw their advantage cut to a single point as Great Britain and Ireland won Friday's fourballs 3-2.

Jose Maria Olazabal's team had looked set to extend their overnight two-point lead for much of Friday but some last-hole heroics from Scott Jamieson helped ensure Europe go into the weekend only down 5.5-4-5.

Paul Casey and Simon Khan beat Mikko Ilonen and Thorbjorn Olesen 3&2 in the top match for GB&I's first point of the afternoon.

However Europe restored their two-point lead, with Nicolas Colsaerts and Gonzalo Fernandez-Castano equalling the biggest winning margin in the tournament's history to see off Paul Lawrie and Stephen Gallacher 6&5.

Jamie Donaldson and Marc Warren then went on to reduce the deficit again by beating Thomas Bjorn and Miguel Angel Jimenez 4&2.

Europe looked set to take both remaining matches before David Lynn and Jamieson won the last two holes to beat Francesco Molinari and Matteo Manassero.

And in the final match to finish, Joost Luiten and Gregory Bourdy narrowly saw off Chris Wood and Tommy Fleetwood on the last hole. An eagle from Wood on the 17th ensured the contest went to the wire but he and Fleetwood both missed decent birdie chances.
