Nick Faldo has pulled out of his first US event on the Champions Tour after suffering an elbow injury.

Faldo withdrew after 12 holes of the SAS Championship because of the injury. He tweaked a torn capsule in his left elbow when he made a gesture during a putt on the sixth hole at Prestonwood Country Club.

The six-time major champion was on the 13th tee at one-over-par when he shook hands with playing partners Kenny Perry and Tom Kite, before walking off the course.

"I really wanted to play. I was all geared up," Faldo said. "I want to play good golf, but I can't play with one arm."

Faldo's only other starts in the Champions Tour came in the Senior Open Championship.

Larry Nelson, Russ Cochran and Mark Mouland share the lead with defending champion Bernard Langer a shot behind.
