Rory McIlroy kept in touch with the leaders at the Korea Open after the former world No. 1 posted a second round of 69 to trail Soon-sang Hong by two shots.

The Northern Irishman began the event with a 70, but after a bright start to his second round with three birdies, all of McIlroy's hard work was undone when he dropped four shots in five holes. He ended with two-under for the round to be three-under overall for the tournament.

"I'm driving the ball very well and for the most part my iron play is pretty good," McIlroy said after his second round.

"But I definitely missed a few opportunities out there. I definitely could have been a few shots better, but I'm in a good position going into the weekend and that's all you can ask for. I don't need to go out there and be overly aggressive, but I just want to get myself into a good position for Sunday if possible."
