Simon Dyson's BMW Masters has come to an abrupt end after he was disqualified for a rules infringement in Shanghai.

The 35-year-old was tied for second on four-under, but was adjudged to have touched the line of his putt with his ball after putting down his mark. He was hit with a two-shot penalty, but was ultimately thrown out of the tournament after he filled in the wrong score on the card he submitted to officials.

European chief referee John Paramor said: "Simon was found to have breached rule 16-1a, which states that a player must not touch his line of putt. Television viewers alerted the European Tour to the incident, which took place on the eighth green during the second round.

"When the footage was reviewed Simon was seen to touch the line of his second putt after marking and lifting his ball on the green. He subsequently failed to add a two-shot penalty to his score when signing his card, and as a result has now been disqualified."

Meanwhile, Rory McIlroy is two-under for the tournament after the former world No.1 posted a one-under 71.

The Northern Irishman failed to make a birdie on the front nine and had one bogey on the par-4 eighth. But he came on strong on the back nine, collecting four consecutive birdies from the 10th to the 13th holes to finally make an impact.

However, all of his hard work was undone when he ended his round with a double bogey on the final hole.

Luke Guthrie is tied for the lead on eight-under with Rafa Cabrera-Bello. England's Paul Casey is only three shots off the pace on five-under, with Lee Westwood on three-under.
