Rhys Davies and Luke Donald are set for a last-day shootout at the Madrid Masters after they both finished day three at 16 under.

Donald, the overnight leader, held a two-stroke advantage over playing partner Davies at halfway - but Davies clawed back the deficit after the turn.

World No. 13 Donald, who is looking for his first win on European soil for six years, carded a bogey-free 68 that featured a solitary back-nine birdie.

"I played better on the front side, on the back nine I struggled off the tee. It's always good to have no bogeys, but it would have been nice to make a couple more birdies on the back nine," Donald told Sky Sports.

Davies, who signed for a 67, bounced back from a double bogey at seven to pick up shots on each of the three subsequent holes. "I didn't hit that bad a tee shot at seven, I probably mis-hit it a tiny bit, but it wasn't that bad a shot. I didn't let it affect me - I merely decided to focus on my game and on making birdies, and I managed to do just that."

Francesco Molinari is in hot pursuit of the British duo at 14 under after he climbed into second place by carding an eight-birdie 65, while Alvaro Quiros - who is at 13 under - also surged into contention with a 64.
