McIlroy slips up in Shanghai
Rory McIlroy encountered a difficult second round at the WGC-HSBC Champions as Dustin Johnson stormed into the lead in Shanghai.
McIlroy held a two-shot advantage after the first day's play and moved onto 10-under for the tournament after the opening nine holes on Friday, but the former world No. 1 then dropped three shots on the back nine - finding the water on the par-5 18th.
Asked how he thought his second round went, the Northern Irishman said: "Disappointing, frustrating."
"Obviously played nicely the front nine and then started to hit a lot of sloppy shots on the back. [I] missed the last six greens in a row. Missed seven greens on the back nine, so a bit of work needed on the range this afternoon," he added.
"It would have been nice to play a bit better and start tomorrow with a few more shots in hand but I guess I'm in a decent position going into the weekend, and still have a great chance at winning this tournament."
Johnson flew to the top of the leaderboard with a nine-under 63 and is five shots clear on 12-under of Bubba Watson, Boo Weekley and McIlroy.
Current champion Ian Poulter is on six-under, with fellow Englishman Tommy Fleetwood impressing to move onto seven-under.
