Donald pleased with Ryder Cup battle

Luke Donald feels Europe Ryder Cup captain Colin Montgomerie will be salivating at the prospect of seeing four Englishmen inside the world's top ten.
Donald joined Lee Westwood, Ian Poulter and Paul Casey inside the top ten following his win in the Madrid Masters at the weekend. English golf and the European game as a whole is on a high at present and with the Ryder Cup looming on the horizon, Donald believes the likely battle for places will be a boon for Montgomerie.
"Hopefully Monty is licking his lips right now," Donald told Sky Sports. "He has a lot of good players in form.
"It is going to be very hard to make that team and that is what Monty wants. He wants people fighting hard to make that team and right now he has got a good few people to pick from.
"England is a huge strength in golf right now with four of us in the top ten, that is an amazing stat."
An Englishman has not won at major since Nick Faldo in 1996 but Donald is hopeful that can soon be rectified. He said "Things king of go in cycles, but once one gets that taste others follow and hopefully one of us can get that major now."
