Tiger Woods has confirmed that his first event of the 2013-2014 PGA Tour season will be a defence of his Farmers Insurance Open title at Torrey Pines.

The world No. 1's victory at the San Diego club last year was his seventh in the event - and his first there since the last of his 14 majors at the 2008 US Open.

Woods will first appear on the European Tour at the Abu Dhabi Golf Championship, which begins on January 19. The 38-year-old also opened at the same event last year, where he missed the cut.

But while a foray to the Middle East is largely seen as a sponsor-pleasing jaunt, it is Torrey Pines the following week where Woods will really look to get his season underway. His victory there last year kick-started a campaign which saw him win five times in a single year for the first time since 2009.

Phil Mickelson is also scheduled to make his 2014 debut at the Farmers Insurance Open.
