US Open champion Justin Rose is to delay the start of his season due to mild tendinitis in his right shoulder.

Rose will skip next week's Abu Dhabi HSBC Golf Championship and the following week's Farmers Insurance Open at Torrey Pines. According to his agent at Excel Sports, Mark Steinberg, Rose will start his year in February.

Steinberg said reports from Rose's doctors are encouraging, but that rest and rehabilitation are the only means of treatment.

Rose won his maiden major at Merion last summer, before playing deep into 2013 by finishing the European Tour season in China, Turkey and Dubai, as well as playing in South Africa.
