Woods will skip Match Play to concentrate on title defences

Tiger Woods has confirmed he will miss the WGC-Match Play Championship later this month.

Woods, the world No. 1, revealed on his official website that he will return to action at the Honda Classic in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, on February 27 - the week following the Match Play.

He will then defend his title at the final two events in the Florida swing - the second WGC of the year, the Cadillac Championship at Doral, Miami, and the Arnold Palmer Invitational at Bay Hill, Orlando.

"The Honda Classic is close to my home, and I want to support it whenever I can," the 38-year-old told TigerWoods.com.

"We have a Learning Center at Murray Middle School in Stuart, Florida, and this event does so much to help the community, including the efforts of the Nicklaus Children's Health Care Foundation."

Woods, who has won the Arnold Palmer Invitational a record eight times, added: "I'm excited about spending time with Arnold and defending my title at his tournament and the WGC-Cadillac. I'm looking forward to seeing what they've done at Doral."

Woods had planned to travel to Russia to watch girlfriend Lindsey Vonn at the Winter Olympics, but she was forced to pull out of the Sochi showpiece with a knee injury.

"I had planned to take that week off and travel with Lindsey to Sochi, but unfortunately that won't happen," he said. "Instead, I'll stay home and prepare for the Florida tournaments."

Adam Scott and Phil Mickelson have also confirmed they will miss the Match Play.
