Northern Ireland's Graeme McDowell and Wales' Jamie Donaldson helped Europe to a commanding 5-0 lead against Asia at the inaugural EurAsiaCup.

The pair were three down to Nicholas Fung and Kim Hyung-sung but came back to win 3&1 in Kuala Lumpur.

Europe dominated the fourballs on the first day with captain Miguel Angel Jimenez and fellow Spaniard Pablo Larrazabal beating Thailand's Thongchai Jaidee and Kiradech Aphibarnrat 2&1 in the opening match to give them the perfect start.

Jimenez's team need just five more points to be crowned champions, with the 10-man teams playing five more foursomes on Friday before Saturday's singles matches.

"We somehow managed to make the turn at one-down, which was huge. And this guy [Donaldson] had a phenomenal back nine. It was great to watch," said McDowell.

"To be 5-0 up is a fantastic start," added Donaldson. "We have always said we can't underestimate them because at the end of the day we are playing in Malaysia."

Spain's Gonzalo Fernandez-Castano and Scotland's Stephen Gallacher won 4&3 against Indian duo Anirban Lahiri and Gaganjeet Bhullar, while France's Victor Dubuisson and the Netherlands' Joost Luiten beat Prayad Marksaeng and Siddikur Rahman 3&2.

Denmark's Thomas Bjorn and Thorbjorn Olesen enjoyed a two-up win over Japanese pair Koumei Oda and Hideto Tanihara.
