Donald and Warren keep touch in touch with McIlroy

Luke Donald and Marc Warren hit opening rounds of 67 to keep within touch of leader Rory McIlroy at the Scottish Open.

Donald, the former world No.1, made four birdies in his flawless first round to finish 4-under-par and three shots off McIlroy's clubhouse lead. Warren made five birdies and a solitary bogey in his round at Royal Aberdeen.

Kristoffer Broburg carded six birdies in a superb visit of 65 which sees him shoot up the leaderboard one shot off the Ulsterman, who leads the way thanks to a new course record. Broburg is alongside Ricardo Gonzalez, who looked set to overhaul McIlroy at the top until two late bogeys spoilt the Argentine's round.

Michael Hoey is well poised after his 66 and is followed by the British trio of Donald, Warren and Richard Bland, who all sit a further shot back at 4-under.

David Howell and Russell Knox impressed with rounds of 68, which sees them placed alongside defending champion Phil Mickelson and Frenchman Gary Stal.

Paul Casey, Darren Clarke and Justin Rose are among a plethora of players who finished with opening scores of 69 and currently sit five shots adrift of the leader.

Elsewhere, Padraig Harrington finished with par while Lee Westwood did well to finish one-over for the day after a disastrous front nine, which included four bogeys and a double bogey.

Ian Poulter and Sir Nick Faldo finished 2-over for the day while Francesco Molinari and Miguel Angel Jimenez laboured to rounds of 74.

Ryder Cup captain Paul McGinley finished with an opening round of 75 and is 3-over-par for the tournament.
