Rory McIlroy believes Senior tour stars Bernhard Langer and Colin Montgomerie should not play on Europe's Ryder Cup team at Gleneagles.

Langer, 56, called on Europe captain Paul McGinley to pick him following his record 13-shot Senior Open win at Royal Porthcrawl, saying he felt he had proved he was worthy of a place.

But McIlroy, whose Open Championship victory at Hoylake took him to the top of the Ryder Cup qualification standings, feels Langer and Montgomerie - who has won two senior majors in 2014 - should only be involved in September as vice-captains.

"The team dynamic is pretty good at the minute with the mix that we've got and to bring someone in that hasn't spent much time around us mightn't be the best," said McIlroy, 25.

"He's [Langer] not playing against the regular guys week in and week out but he's playing great golf obviously and what he's done this year, and Monty as well has been fantastic.

"If they were to be involved as vice-captains or something then I'd be all for that, but I don't think they should be on the team."
