McIlroy named PGA Player of the Year

Rory McIlroy has been named PGA of America Player of Year for the second time in three years.
The Northern Irishman claimed three straight tournament wins, including back-to-back major victories at The Open and the US PGA Championship, this summer.
McIlroy collected a total of 160 Player of the Year points and received 70 points for his three victories, which also included the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational, as well as a 50-point bonus for sealing two majors.
He was awarded 20 points for topping the PGA Tour money list and gained a further 20 points for winning the Vardon Trophy, having scored an average of 68.82 through 66 complete rounds; Sergio Garcia was second with 68.95 over 61 completed rounds.
Masters champion Bubba Watson was the closest challenger with 62 points, while US Open winner Martin Kaymer was a distant third having amassed 52 points. Jimmy Walker, a triple-event winner, came fourth with 46 points.
McIlroy, who narrowly missed out on the FedEx Cup crown last week, picked up both awards in 2012, after he won his first of two US PGA titles.
