Pavin to hold crunch talks with Woods over Ryder Cup

American captain Corey Pavin has revealed that he intends to hold talks with Tiger Woods next month in order to discover whether the world No. 1 plans to compete in the Ryder Cup at Celtic Manor in October.
Pavin has admitted that he is in the dark over Woods' intentions - although he is in optimistic mood after the 34-year-old declared at the Masters earlier this year that he would be willing to participate.
Woods would at present not require a captain's pick in order to take his place in the team - he stands seventh in the American points list, with the top eight qualifying automatically - but the likes of Ricky Barnes and Hunter Mahan are putting him under intense pressure.
"I have not spoken to Tiger yet about the Ryder Cup," Pavin said. "But I do plan to talk to him about it during the PGA Championship. All I know is what Tiger said at the Masters - I don't think he has said anything to change that position."
Pavin also declared that he is desperate for Woods, who is still searching for a first win of the year, to compete for the US. "He's the best player in the world. He's the number one player in the world and he's going to make Team USA better if he's on it," he said.
