Garcia hoping two-month break will arrest slump

Sergio Garcia has revealed that he will take a two-month break after this week's US PGA Championship in an attempt to arrest the slide down the world rankings that is set to cost him a Ryder Cup spot.
The Spaniard, currently 19th in the European points list, knows that the year's final Major offers him one last opportunity to seal a place in the Ryder Cup team - and, in all probability, he needs a top-three finish.
Garcia has played in every Ryder Cup since appearing as a 19-year-old at Brookline in 1999, but European captain Colin Montgomerie has conceded that he is unlikely to feature this time round.
With several celebrated players pushing for one of Montgomerie's three wild card picks, Garcia looks set to suffer for the poor form he has exhibited this year - he has only one-top ten finish from 14 starts on the PGA Tour in 2010.
Now he will hope that his self-imposed exile will help him to get his game back in order. "It's been a long year," Garcia said. "I haven't had a nice, long break my whole career. I need the break, I need to miss the game a little bit. I've talked to [Montgomerie]. He knows what I'm planning to do."
