Rory McIlroy's court case against his former agent was brought to an end with a 35-word statement.

The world No.1 golfer was suing Dublin-based Horizon Sports Management and its leading agent, Conor Ridge, claiming he was misled into signing a contract with the company. McIlroy initiated the case in 2013.

McIlroy said in court papers that he signed a contract at Horizon's Christmas party "in circumstances of great informality" and without having seen a draft of the agreement before it was given to him to sign.

In turn, Horizon were countersuing, claiming McIlroy owed them millions of pounds in commissions.

The BBC reports that the settlement is for $20 million (£15m), according to a source close to the case.

However, McIlroy and Horizon released a brief joint announcement on Wednesday morning, stating: "The legal dispute between Rory McIlroy and Horizon Sports Management has been settled to the satisfaction of both parties who wish each other well for the future.

"The parties will be making no further comment."
