Ian Poulter has revealed that he has a "burning desire" to "prove a point" when Europe and America commence Ryder Cup battle at Celtic Manor on Friday.

Although Poulter was one of the stars of Europe's losing effort at Valhalla in 2008 - claiming four out of five points - he insists that overall defeat washed away any personal glory he may have felt.

"I was disappointed I didn't make it five out of five," Poulter said. "You know, there is a burning passion inside to go out there and beat the USA team. I mean, it's as simple as that.

"I have got a point to prove. They beat us, and that's enough. To be on the losing side wasn't enjoyable even though I played fairly well. I would like to prove a point; that this European team is as strong as ever, and that we can do it on home soil."

Poulter is paired with Miguel Angel Jimenez for the second practice round, which was delayed due to the wet and blustery conditions in Wales. The Molinari brothers will team up together for the second day in succession, as will the Northern Irish duo of Graeme McDowell and Rory McIlroy.

Elsewhere, there are all-new partnerships - US PGA Championship winner Martin Kaymer teams up with Luke Donald, Padraig Harrington joins Peter Hanson and Ross Fisher is with Lee Westwood.

On the American side, Steve Stricker and Tiger Woods - who won four points together at the Presidents Cup in 2009 - are again working in tandem, as are Stewart Cink and Matt Kuchar.

The big-hitting pair of Phil Mickelson and Dustin Johnson are together, Jeff Overton joins Bubba Watson, rookie Rickie Fowler is alongside the veteran Jim Furyk and Zach Johnson is with Hunter Mahan.
