Rory McIlroy has confessed that he is sick of hearing about Tiger Woods' comeback, and that he feels the world No. 1 should return to golf as soon as possible.

Woods will release a statement on Friday apologising for his misdemeanours and outlining his plans for the future. The 34-year-old announced an indefinite break from golf in December admist a backdrop of allegations about his personal life.

McIlroy, talking at the Accenture World Match Play championship in which he struggled to a first round win against Kevin Na, said: "I think the sooner [he comes back] the better. As long as he's back on the golf course, playing good golf, it's good for the tour.

"It'll be quite nice just to fly under the radar this week if he comes out and makes a statement. This whole storyline will hopefully be forgotten in a few months.

"He's got to come back at some point. I'm sick of hearing about it."
