Charl Schwartzel showed nerves of steel to lift his first major, but the nerves were jangling: "It was an amazing day, an exciting day. There were so many roars and the atmosphere was incredible. Playing with KJ [Choi], he plays the same game as I do, going about our business and that sort of kept me calm, as calm as I could be I suppose. I was getting tight, going down 15 and Adam Scott was making birdies and Jason Day as well and I needed to do something and I hit some great irons shots and putts those last four holes."

Rory McIlroy suffered heartache with a closing 80, but took it on the chin and is vowing to come back stronger: "I thought I hung in pretty well the front nine, I led going into the back nine but hit a poor tee shot on 10 and it unravelled from there. I lost it at 10, 11, 12 and could not get it back. It is just one of those things. I am very disappointed at the minute and will be for the next few days, but I am sure I will get over it. I have got to take the positives and the positives were I led the tournament for 63 holes. I will have plenty more chances, I know that. It is disappointing what has happened today and hopefully it will build a little character in me as well."

Lee Westwood finished with a 70 but it was a week of frustration on the greens for the world No. 2: "I am very frustrated. I played tee to green like a man who should have won the tournament. Putting was the problem and I need to sort it out. I switched to the belly putter which I have not used for four years and I putted better than the short one. The problem was I could not hole from four feet."

The 2008 Masters champion Trevor Immelman carded an excellent three-under 69 and felt conditions were excellent: "It could not be better. It is warm, but it is perfect of golf. There are challenging pin positions and there is a lot of pressure on the back nine."

Justin Rose produced his best round of the week, an excellent four-under 68 and he feels the course was set up for a big finish: "There is a lot of fireworks possible on the back nine, but I am surprised how the guys have stalled and how far I have climbed up the leaderboard. I have struggled with the putter and if you are not 100 percent confident these greens can give you kittens. It has been a typical Augusta Sunday with the roars. You can tell if it's an eagle or birdie roar or a Tiger roar. They have set the course up for roars and cheers."

Ian Poulter finished well down the field after a final round of 73 and he was not happy with his showing: "I am disappointed, I started well and played nicely but did not take advantage of the holes I should have done. I am over par on 13 and 15, which is not good enough and took me out of contention. I hit great tee shots but I just made mistakes."

Martin Laird played alongside Tiger Woods and the experience is something he wants to experience again: "It was fantastic. Playing on Sunday with Tiger when he is on a charge, it can't get much better. I want this sort of thing and it's been a great week. The atmosphere has been incredible, it has been a great experience, I learned a lot and can't wait to come back next year."
