'Frustrated' Westwood blasts his putting

Lee Westwood offered a scathing assessment of his putting after seeing his dream of winning The Masters fade on the Augusta National greens.

Westwood completed the tournament in a tie for 11th at five-under, with the Englishman failing to build on Saturday's 67, which propelled him into contention.

His long game was faultless, but putting - as has been the case so often in the past - let him down badly, as he passed up a series of opportunities from within ten feet.

The problems were so severe that he was forced to switch to a belly putter for the final day, an instrument that he intends to stick with in future.

"I am very frustrated," he said. "I played tee to green like a man who should have won the tournament. Putting was the problem and I need to sort it out.

"I switched to the belly putter which I have not used for four years and I putted better than the short one. The problem was I could not hole from four feet."

Westwood's Masters disappointment was made more acute by the fact he came within a whisker of winning the tournament in 2010, finishing second to Phil Mickelson. Meanwhile, Augusta winner Charl Schwartzel has moved up to 11th in the world rankings, while Tiger Woods climbs two to fifth.
