European Tour 'actively considering' Seve logo change

The European Tour have announced that they will take their time in finding a suitable tribute to the memory of Seve Ballesteros - but have not ruled out changing the tour logo to commemorate his legacy.
Calls for the Tour to recognise Ballesteros' career have grown ever since the five-time major champion's death earlier this month, with Padraig Harrington the first to suggest that the Tour change its logo to incorporate one of the many iconic images of the flamboyant Spaniard.
European Tour chief executive George O'Grady confirmed in a statement that a change of logo is "actively being considered for consultation with the tournament committee", although other routes - including rebuilding and enhancing the current Seve Trophy - are also being reviewed.
"Following the sad death of Severiano Ballesteros, we are taking time to reflect on how best the European Tour continues to honour his memory," O'Grady said.
"Seve was the inspiration behind The European Tour as it is today and it is both right and fitting that, in the fullness of time, we find the most appropriate way to acknowledge his unique contribution."
The current European Tour logo, featuring Harry Vardon, was only introduced in 2008 as part of a global rebrand after a long consultation period with an American media agency.
Vardon's name is also lent to the prize for the winner of the Order of Merit, and has been since 1937, while Seve's image is part of the players' player award that has been handed out to the leading player as voted by his peers since 2008.
On Tuesday, the European Tour will also decide the host for the 2018 Ryder Cup at Wentworth. France's bid is considered the bookies' favourite, although Spain - who hosted the event at Valderrama in 1997 - have received a late rush of sentimental support after Ballesteros' passing.
