Michael Schumacher thinks that his Mercedes team have made some steps forward after he finished Friday's free practice session sixth fastest behind team-mate Nico Rosberg.
The seven-time world champion has endured a miserable season to date, culminating in the worst finish of his F1 career at the European Grand Prix.
But Schumacher said the updates introduced at Silverstone were a step in the right direction.
"Looking at where we are right now it does look like it," said Schumacher. "But then in Valencia's free practice we didn't look that bad either and finally it didn't look too good. But let's see what happens tomorrow. The guys have worked hard and I hope we sort of position ourselves well."
Schumacher, who has won the British Grand Prix on three occasions, said he liked the new Silverstone layout although he was hoping for more overtaking areas.
"It's an interesting part, certainly, but it's a shame they couldn't introduce any overtaking [places]. But otherwise it's very fluid, very fast. A little bit bumpy in one or two places."
