Kimi Raikkonen thinks qualifying will go ahead without any issues if the weather is the same on Saturday as it was on Friday, blaming the lack of running during FP1 and FP2 on the limited number of full wet tyres available under the regulations.

The drivers have just three sets of full wet tyres to last them over the race weekend, and with more rain forecast, most teams wanted to save them for Saturday and Sunday. Raikkonen said the actual conditions were not that bad and the track would have improved if more cars had gone out.

"For sure people would have run today if we would have had more tyres, it's not because it was such bad weather," he said. "When everyone goes out we will get the line and it's not so bad for aquaplaning. But when there are only a few cars running you get this aquaplaning. In qualifying it should not be a problem. The spray will be the issue with all the people [on track], but the conditions itself weren't too bad. "

Raikkonen said he felt sorry for the fans that had queued in the rain to watch trackside but saw very little action on track. Under the regulations the teams are allocated an extra set of intermediate tyres for wet Fridays, but not full wets.

"It's a shame for the people that are coming here and standing all day in the rain and grandstands and nobody runs because we don't have the tyres. I mean, we have an extra set of intermediates, but when it rains like this you cannot really use them. It's the rules, it could be a better set of rules because it's the same for all the teams and it would be nice for the people, not just here but on TV."

Romain Grosjean said he would have liked to have done more running, but with the track too wet for inters, had to sit out.

"At the end of FP1 this morning it was incredibly wet and the same conditions at the start of FP2 so we had to wait and be patient. I would have liked to have more track time but due to the regulations on tyres we didn't want to use up all our wet tyre allocation as more rain is expected on Saturday and Sunday. We looked at putting inters on but it wasn't dry enough so we couldn't really do many laps this afternoon. The conditions were a shame for the fans out there who came to watch us today, but we always appreciate their support."
