Sebastian Vettel described the running at the end of FP2 "a little bit of a waste" after completing ten laps on Friday afternoon.

Heavy rain made meaningful running virtually impossible as both practice sessions took place on a wet track, but teams did complete some laps towards the end of FP2 as the conditions improved slightly. Vettel said that he wasn't consciously trying to save tyres but had not been able to learn anything with so much standing water on track.

"I think we saved the tyres by not running," Vettel said. "This morning and this afternoon there was just too much water so it was very tricky in these conditions. I think it was more a shame for the fans sitting in the grandstands waiting for the cars to come out and we didn't come. We did a little bit in the end but basically it was a little bit of a waste because you can't really try anything."

Vettel admitted that he hoped to get some more running on Saturday if the weather improves.

"We don't know what is going to happen; I think we just have to check it out tomorrow morning when we wake up. They said that this is the worst day - the Friday should be the worst day - so hopefully it gets a little bit better so that we can get some running because if there's too much water then we just can't run at all."
