Silverstone encourages ticket holders to come on race day
Silverstone is now encouraging all ticket holders to come to the circuit for Sunday's race now that its public car parks have had a chance to recover.
After thousands of fans experienced transport chaos on Friday due to waterlogged car parks and camping areas, the circuit asked roughly 30,000 ticket holders to stay at home on Saturday. On Saturday evening it said the decision "gave the circuit a fighting chance to repair and get previously unsafe car parks into a state that can be used on race day".
The circuit has told people to arrive early with car parks opening at 5.00am, gates at 6.00am and grandstands at 7.00am. And it has asked, if possible, for fans to travel in 4x4 vehicles, on motorcycles or as part of a car share. It also advised people to come prepared for a long walk from the car park with appropriate footwear and clothing.
Richard Phillips, managing director of Silverstone, said: "The weather has been a constant issue over the weekend. Tomorrow will be a bit of a challenge, but please bear with us; we are going to do our best."
All campsites are now full and therefore closed.
