Button 'looking forward to a good result' on Sunday

Jenson Button is confident he will score a good result at the British Grand Prix on Sunday despite qualifying 16th.

Button failed to get his tyres working when it mattered in qualifying and was knocked out in the first round, although he will be promoted two places on the grid due to penalties for Kamui Kobayashi and Jean-Eric Vergne. Despite the lowly grid slot however, he is confident the McLaren will work well in wet or dry conditions on Sunday.

"I think we can definitely do something in the dry," Button said. "I think our pace in the morning was reasonably good on both tyres and it's not going to be easy for anyone on the slicks because there hasn't been a lot of dry running. But also the circuit will be very green so I think a few people will get a shock, which is good, because I think we have a very good understanding of the tyres whereas others might not so much.

"But I don't think it's going to be dry for the whole day tomorrow, if dry at all. So it's going to be inters and wets for pretty much the whole day, and yes I'm a long way back, but I'm still looking forward to the race. A lot can happen in those conditions and it seems that when a car does exit the circuit here they have to put a safety car out. I'm guessing because of the mud off the circuit the tractor can't cross it, so they're struggling to take cars away. Safety cars will really mix the race up and there's a possibility we'll have that as well. It's definitely not done and we're looking forward to a good result tomorrow."

Button said his qualifying struggle was rooted in not getting the temperature into his first set of intermediates during Q1 and then the final sector being too wet for a quick lap once he had a fresh set on.

"For me, I struggled with the front grip at the start of Q1. To be fair, with my first set if I'd done the lap a little bit earlier instead of slowing down to get space it would have been fine, but it started raining in the last sector. On the second set the car felt much better but it's because they'd come straight out of blankets and came straight onto a quick lap. I was two seconds up on my other set of tyres [in the first two sectors], but a wet last sector and a yellow flag put paid to getting through."
