Fernando Alonso described the British Grand Prix as "an amazing weekend" having only lost championship points to Mark Webber.

Webber won the race by overtaking Alonso with just four laps remaining, with Alonso having led from pole position for the whole afternoon. Alonso admitted after the race that being so close to victory made second a slightly disappointing result, but that in terms if the championship it had been a hugely successful grand prix.

"When you're leading the race and four or five laps from the end you lose the victory it's a little bit of mixed feelings at the beginning," Alonso said. "But in terms of championship points etc it has been an amazing weekend again, increasing the gap with Sebastian [Vettel] and with [Lewis] Hamilton so we need to be happy. But also we need to improve and next time hopefully have whatever we need to extract these extra two or three seconds to beat Mark as well."

Alonso also said that he was proud of the progress Ferrari has already made prior to this weekend.

"It was very close today, the victory, but at the end of the last stint Mark was much quicker than us and he deserved the win. So congratulations to him and congratulations to the Red Bull team but I'm very proud of Ferrari's recovery in the last couple of weeks. Now we are fighting for the victory in the last three or four grands prix so we are in the right direction."
