Sebastian Vettel does not think there is any extra time to be gained by drivers at the new Parabolica tarmac run-off area after pushing the limits of his car in Friday practice at Monza.

The change to the iconic corner has been a controversial one, with some saying it takes away the risk and challenge the old gravel trap used to provide. Drivers seemed universally against the change on Thursday but Vettel says he was able to adopt a more gung-ho approach in practice to see what he can get away with on Sunday.

"It's not quicker," Vettel said. "That's what practice is for. Parabolica has changed compared to the past so I was trying to see how greedy you can be."

Vettel missed the entirety of FP2 in Belgium and later said it meant he was still chasing an optimum set-up during the race. With Red Bull expecting to struggle at Monza Vettel finished sixth and seventh in the two Friday practice sessions but he thinks Red Bull has some issues it can iron out before Sunday's race.

"Today was a good day in terms of laps that we could do and stuff that we could test," Vettel said. "It's always important to get the Friday right to build onto for the rest of the weekend. I felt a bit happier than previously.

"It was very slippery, obviously these cars are very low on grip. It's normal, plus the fact you have minimum downforce in Monza which usually makes things quite interesting. It was quite a good day for us, we didn't have any big problems, but there are issues with the car so we could do a little better."
