Felipe Massa feels as though he and Williams are locked in a "big fight" with his old team Ferrari in the constructors' championship.

Williams is currently ten points behind Ferrari in the championship, but has a big opportunity to move ahead at Monza on a circuit suited to the FW36. Massa will start fourth behind team-mate Valtteri Bottas in third, while the Ferraris are down in seventh and 11th on the grid.

"It feels like a big fight with Ferrari," Massa said. "It's clear and we know how important it is - with a team like Williams that's growing - that we get better and better prepared for next year as well and how important one position is for the budget. We will try everything we can.

"We start third and fourth, so tomorrow is a good opportunity. I hope we can use well the opportunity to finish on the podium here - it would be an incredible feeling!"

Williams could even take the fight to Mercedes at Monza after long practice runs on Friday suggested the FW36 had race pace to rival Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg. Massa isn't so sure, but is confident of a strong race.

"I think they are very strong. Maybe we are a little bit closer on this track, but we need to wait and see tomorrow. They didn't do a proper long run yesterday [Friday], we did a very good long run, but we need to wait and see what will happen tomorrow."

Massa said Turn 1 would be crucial for Williams' chances, but also stressed the need to exercise caution..

"You need to understand here Turn 1 is very tricky. If you are losing space, maybe people behind can try something over you. You need to try to do everything correct and you need to try to do everything to pass at corner one or two, because we know how important that is here.

"It's not a corner with a lot of space. If you see they are fighting each other you cannot be on the next side. You just need to wait."
