Felipe Massa thinks Williams can continue its strong form right until the end of the season after he ended his run of bad luck to claim his first podium with the team at the Italian Grand Prix.

Massa benefited from a poor start from both Lewis Hamilton and team-mate Valtteri Bottas in the opening laps, but the former eventually found a way back past on lap 11. After that Massa had a quiet race as he brought the car home and says he is relieved to put his 2014 jynx behind him.

"I'm really, really happy to be back on the podium as we missed [several chances] during the season," Massa said. "I was not very lucky in some of the other races [this year]. But the luck is on our side now, I am sure, and from now until the very last race we are going to be there fighting. I am so happy to be on the podium here. There is a lot more to come.

"It is a very great day for us. It was a great race and great start, also the pace was very good. Not enough to fight with the Mercedes but I think we had a very good pace and very good car. The team did a perfect job. I'm really, really happy to be back on the podium as we missed [several chances] during the season."

Massa had not been on the podium since Spain last year, and he admits it was no less special despite the fact he no longer drives for Ferrari.

"These people like me and I had an incredible time with them for many years. It's not because I'm not in red any more that I don't have the same pleasure and happiness in front of these incredible people. I'm so happy to be on the podium here, this is an amazing place which I really love.

"We are fighting with Ferrari and we need to be in front of them. I am not driving for them any more but I have an incredible heart for Ferrari, they will always be inside my heart because I had a great time there. But now I'm in another team and we need to fight with everybody, not just Ferrari but Red Bull, Mercedes, we need to be in front of everybody. Today we did a fantastic job and were on the podium and I think it is a message that we are competitive and that we are fighting."
