Two DRS zones for Monza

The Italian Grand Prix will be the second race of 2012 to feature two separate DRS zones.

In 2011 the FIA trialled two DRS zones at a number of circuits including Canada, Valencia, and Italy, and then started this season with two zones in Melbourne. However, since then both the Canadian and European grands prix have only seen one DRS zone designated.

This weekend will see a return to two separate zones, with the FIA sticking with the same layout as it used in 2011. That means the first zone is on the start/finish straight - 115 metres after the finish line - with a detection point 20m before Parabolica. The second zone is located 210m after the second Lesmo on the run down to the Ascari chicane, with the detection point placed 95m before the second Lesmo.

The decision to stick with two DRS zones at the circuit will have been driven in part by the tyre compounds available at Monza, with the hardest possible tyres - the medium and hard compounds - having been selected by Pirelli.
