Sergio Perez suffered a strange retirement during the Malaysian Grand Prix, having hit a piece of stray debris.

Perez was running in fourteenth position when he ran over part of a Toro Rosso; the impact causing a strange series of events inside the Sauber.

"Something came off Sébastien Buemi's car, which was just in front of me, and hit the floor of my car," Perez said. "The fire extinguisher went off and the electrics cut out."

Perez wasn't the only driver to retire in odd circumstances at Sepang, as Virgin's Jerome d'Ambrosio hit a kerb hard "which produced a large vertical G force that toggled the power switch and turned the car off". And Renault's Vitaly Petrov broke his steering column when he landed heavily having launched his car in to the air off the back of a kerb.
