Hamilton bemoans 'worst start'

Lewis Hamilton blamed his fifth place finish at the Monaco Grand Prix for not making inroads off the line from his starting place of third.

The McLaren driver then lost out to Fernando Alonso and Sebastian Vettel after the pit stops and was unable to make up the ground lost around the tight confines of the Principality circuit.

"It was frustrating and it wasn't the best job," said Hamilton. "But this is motor racing. I really dislike going backwards but nonetheless we still came away with some points and there are many, many races ahead of us so we have to try and keep our heads up and keep pushing.

"My start was one of the worst starts I've had in a long time and I just don't understand why it happens when the two guys next to me and the guys behind me got perfect starts. I was very fortunate not to get caught up in the crash. It's quite an easy thing, we do thousands and thousands of starts throughout the year so it shouldn't be a problem.

"I don't know how long my pits top was but I lost quite a lot of time and I just wasn't able to keep up with Alonso and then Sebastian got me through his pit stop which made it virtually impossible to overtake. We came away with some points, and there are many more races ahead, but we've definitely got some work to do because, race by race, we're struggling to keep up with the leaders."
