Ricciardo concerned by Toro Rosso pace

Daniel Ricciardo admits he is glad to have Friday off to attempt to rectify Toro Rosso's lack of pace in Monaco.

After Thursday's practice sessions the teams don't run again until FP3 on Saturday morning as part of the extended Monaco Grand Prix weekend. Ricciardo was the quickest Toro Rosso in FP2 but was 2.4s off the pace set by Nico Rosberg and said he was happy to have the whole of Friday to try a way to get more pace from the car.

"It's probably nice having a day now to reflect," Ricciardo said. "A day off to try and understand and spend a bit more time with the guys and myself to see where we're lacking because we didn't expect we'd be this much off the pace to be honest. It's more or less where we were last year and we feel we've really made improvements since then."

Ricciardo said it was both he and the car that could deliver more pace over one lap.

"I'd be lying if I said I was happy with it but at least it's not Saturday so we've got room for improvement, but I would have liked it to have been better. Our long runs didn't seem that bad, they seemed a bit more competitive, but long runs don't mean much here. You need to be quick in qualifying otherwise - unless you're really lucky with some sort of strategy - the race is going to be pretty boring.

"We need to find more one-lap pace, definitely. In myself I need to find more because I know that there's more there, and definitely in the car we need to look at some solutions."
