Robert Kubica reckons any advantage he might have had in Thursday's practice sessions will be smaller by the time qualifying starts.

Kubica was on the limit in his Renault right from the start of first practice and traded fastest times with quicker cars early on before finishing the second session in sixth. However, he reckons any advantage he may have gained by driving on the limit while others were still getting used to the track will be cancelled out once his competitors get their eye in.

"After everyone has done 60 laps [in practice], the limit and the difference is getting smaller," he said. "It's true that the driver might have a bigger influence on the lap time [in Monaco], but I think it's just at the beginning of the weekend, then everyone will get used to everything."

He said anything could happen over the course of the weekend but emphasised the key to a good result would be about predicting what condition the track would be in during qualifying and tailoring the set-up of the car to meet it.

"Anything can happen, especially here in Monaco, and things change very quickly in Monaco," Kubica added. "We hope to improve the car and to improve the balance but the track is changing very quickly so you have to somehow get the right balance at the right moment. This is not easy, so we will have to watch the track evaluation and try to anticipate the changes for qualifying."
