Kubica confident in Renault's progress
Robert Kubica is confident he has made the right choice by staying at Renault under its new ownership following his visit to its Enstone factory last week.
The team was recently bought-out by investment company Genii Capital and at the time Kubica's manager cast some doubts over his driver's commitment to the team. However, after meeting new team boss Eric Boullier and carrying out a seat fitting, Kubica said he is looking forward to getting down to business at the first test.
"So far things are going really well and the factory has given me a warm welcome," he said. "It's still very early days and I need to get to know everybody in the team, but at the moment things are going well. I already have a good relationship with my engineers and we talk on the phone every week, as I want to know as much about the new car as possible. The only difficulty I have is being patient enough to wait for the first test as it has been a long winter out of the car."
Renault still hasn't revealed the identity of Kubica's team-mate, despite Boullier saying he had narrowed the list of candidates to five two weeks ago. Russian Vitaly Petrov is the latest driver to be linked to the role due to his lucrative personal sponsorship deals. He has driven in GP2 for the last four seasons, taking four race wins, and has also been linked to positions at Sauber and Campos. He is believed to be facing tough competition for the Renault seat from Nick Heidfeld, Romain Grosjean, Takuma Sato and Ho-Pin Tung.
