Lewis Hamilton says he just had to go through the motions after Nico Rosberg's early mistake as he claimed his ninth win of 2014 at the inaugural Russian Grand Prix.

The definitive moment of the race occurred on the run down to Turn 2, when Rosberg destroyed his tyres attempting to pass Hamilton on the inside. Rosberg subsequent pit stop at the end of the lap meant Hamilton could build a lead in front and he never looked challenged out in front, and he says he felt completely in control.

"It was a good, good day and an amazing weekend," Hamilton said. "Once I had the lead I was just having to control, looking after the tyres. Managing the fuel was quite straight forward. Towards the end of the race the car felt great so I could push or not push.

"I wasn't really having to push much and even when I had to pick up the pace a little bit when I found Nico was behind it was easy to match the time. Obviously Nico did a great job to recover from his mistake earlier on today. The car has been amazing this weekend and I really, really enjoyed the track."

The Mercedes one-two earned the team it's first-ever constructors' championship, something Hamilton says makes the experience of victory even more special.

"It's history for us, so I'm very proud to be a part of it and work with his great team towards the first constructors' championship with Mercedes-Benz, I could have only dreamed of that when I joined the team. A great day for the team."
