Williams drivers concerned about pace
Both Williams drivers were concerned about their lack of pace on Friday at the Singapore Grand Prix after finishing the second practice session in 17th and 18th.
Williams often holds back during the opening two sessions of the weekend, but on Friday both drivers were genuinely struggling with rear grip. Felipe Massa said he expected more from the car and the team needs to find a solution in order to be competitive.
"I expected it to be better, but I still believe there are some problems around that we need to find," he said. "It was really a difficult night for us. We couldn't find the right balance and the right grip, especially at the rear of the car. There is a lot we need to do to improve the car for tomorrow so that maybe it is better than how it was today. Otherwise it will be a very difficult weekend.
"If we find this problem and things improve we will go a lot better. We will at least be closer to the front, I'm not sure how close, but more in front than we are. If we don't find it, for sure it will not be easy, but hopefully we will find something to improve our position."
Valtteri Bottas said the situation was not as bad as the positions suggest but admits there are issues that need to be solved ahead of qualifying.
"We are not going to be tomorrow or Sunday in those positions, but how much we can improve we need to see," he said. "It's up to us to find the lap time and we still have plenty of tools to improve the lap time, but it didn't feel good today. We need to make improvements in the set-up and get the tyres to work. The car wasn't easy or consistent to drive."
