Nico Rosberg believes it will take some time for Mercedes to get the best from its exhaust updates after getting his first taste of the new parts during Friday practice for the Singapore Grand Prix.

Rosberg finished the second practice session eighth fastest and was 1.450s off Sebastian Vettel's pace. Mercedes is hoping its new exhaust system will help close the gap to the front runners over the coming races, but Rosberg warned it would take time.

"There are a lot of new parts on the car and it's just going to take some time to work them in, get the most out of them and understand them," he said. "We are going to have to do a lot of analysing. At the beginning it was okay but nothing spectacular, but it's a decent start. You can definitely feel the improvement in various areas and there are a lot of positives."

Rosberg said the biggest problem Mercedes is facing in Singapore is rear tyre degradation.

"It's more the tyres, especially on the long run, they just completely went away at the rear. And also on the short run we just didn't get the most out of the tyres. The tyres are so complicated it's really a science in itself and we really have to work out what the best thing to do is."
