Lewis Hamilton says Mercedes has a lot of work to do to resolve the problems it has faced with tyre degradation at recent races.

Hamilton started Sunday's Spanish Grand Prix from second on the grid but was 12th by the finish after struggling with tyre degradation throughout the race. His team-mate Nico Rosberg started from pole position but dropped to sixth at the finish and Hamilton said the problems would require a rethink.

"We've got a lot of work to do," he said. "We both went backwards at the start, but I went back a long, long way. We've just got work to do and we have to go back to the drawing board to find out what's wrong."

Asked if the current situation was frustrating, Hamilton said: "I don't know if it's frustrating, it's just a shame for the team after they worked so hard. For some reason we are just not able to pull it together. We don't know where it is at the moment, otherwise we would fix it immediately, but I'm sure the guys will find it."
